Why I Became a Teacher

My interest in education was a result of my passion for history and civic education. I wanted to share my passion for social studies with students in order to promote an educated citizenry, which is crucial for the success of a democratic society.

I love working at Georgia Connections Academy because I can incorporate technology into my instructional practices. Working at an online school allows me to be a pioneer in the field of educational technology. I have even been able to support colleagues in brick-and-mortar settings with the transition to blended and online learning as a result of COVID-19 due to the experiences that I have had working in this environment.

Working at an online school allows me to be a pioneer in the field of educational technology.

The Online School Experience at Georgia Connections Academy

Georgia Connections Academy creates a welcoming community by hosting orientation sessions, field trips, welcome, and end-of-year events as well as a variety of clubs and activities for students. We also have community groups with students and parents throughout the state that meet up to provide opportunities for social interaction and support for students and parents.

My favorite part of my job is working with teachers to help them incorporate a variety of technology tools into their instructional practice to provide students with real-world scenarios that they can relate to a personal experience, so they understand how the skills they are learning are relevant in the context of their own lives.
